Arts to Grow is delighted to welcome Nick Boaro to our Board of Directors. Nick joined ATG last summer as a Co-Chair for Youth, I.N.C.’s Celebration program. Despite his late start he quickly took on a leadership role, successfully leveraging connections at his firm EY as well as Morgan Stanley to forge two new corporate engagements in support of ATG’s work with children.

Nick was drawn to ATG because, having moved around a lot, he’s seen firsthand the difference that the arts can make in the life of a community. “Those communities that were involved in the arts and outdoor activities stood out as genuinely happier people,” he explains. “For a community to be involved in the arts, it has to start with the kids. This is what drew me to ATG: seeing what the organization does firsthand and the joy it brings to the children is exciting.”

To those interested in getting involved with Arts to Grow, Nick would recommend taking the time to see the programs in action. “You can see the children enjoy the programs and you can’t help but notice the sense of self-accomplishment and pride they have,” he says, adding that there are a wide range of events to choose from. “For me, it was a short play, but ATG programs cover all aspects of the arts.”

He also credits his time as a Celebration Co-Chair with helping him learn about Arts to Grow. His involvement allowed him to “have focused time with Mallory, the board, and established programs to learn a lot about the organization very quickly.”

Nick officially joined the board in December. We are thrilled to have him join us in helping more children love learning through the arts.

ATG will be honored tomorrow with the Excellence in Fundraising Award at Youth, I.N.C.’s 3rd Annual Innovators Breakfast, hosted by Bloomberg L.P. We are being acknowledged for our outstanding work in improving the lives of NYC-area children, as well as for our success over the past two years in Youth, I.N.C.’s Celebration program. We’re thrilled to be recognized alongside two other excellent youth-serving organizations: Creative Arts Workshops for Kids, which will receive the Excellence in Capacity-Building Award, and GallopNYC, which will receive the Excellence in Board Advancement Award.

Our Board Chair, Allen Pinero, will speak on a panel moderated by Geoff Levin, Partner at Caldwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP and Secretary of the Youth, I.N.C. Board of Directors. Allen will discuss how Arts to Grow has leveraged Youth, I.N.C.’s Celebration program to increase our fundraising capacity and serve more children.

This award will be accepted on Arts to Grow’s behalf by Kristina (pictured above), a three-year graduate of ATG’s musical theater program at CHLDC/IS 171 who is now a Junior in the Honors Rep program at Talent Unlimited High School. Kristina will speak about her experiences with ATG and the impact our programs have had on her future; she will also open the ceremony with a monologue adapted from the musical RENT. Kristina has been awarded the $3,000 Van Lier scholarship for professional development as well as a full scholarship to Pace University’s “Summer Scholars” musical theater program. She is currently attending the Stella Adler Studio of Acting’s Teen Weekend Conservatory.

Supporters of youth-serving nonprofits will pack the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria tonight for A Celebration to Benefit New York Kids.  Arts to Grow is among 15 organizations being honored at this event for the work we do in improving the lives of children in the New York metro area.  Now in the second year of our partnership with Youth, I. N.C., we are thrilled to report that we’ve exceeded this year’s fundraising goal by over 58% and counting—this money will go directly toward bringing arts programs to more children in the 50+ schools and organizations on our waitlist.

We thank our Co-Chairs for making this event such a success, and all of our donors for supporting us over the past year and for joining us at Celebration.  We look forward to seeing you tonight!
