5 Free Event to do with Kids this Weekend!

1. Story Pirates 

The Story Pirates provides arts and education programs that celebrate the words and ideas of young people. This sketch comedy musical is based on stories by elementary schoolers!

The program begins at 11am with a book making workshop offered by the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. Story Pirates starts at 11:30.  There will be a Q&A following the program and the audience can mingle with the cast members.

2. Spooky Stories of New York State

3. Family Art Workshop 

The Drawing Center and Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian offer a free art-making workshop that engages children and adults in hands-on creative exploration. Educator-led discussions and art-marking activities will encourage participants to get inspired, have fun, and make art together. 

Children 8-12 and their parents are invited to explore the Carl Beam retrospective exhibition at the National Museum of the American Indian. This workshop will encourage participants to discover the world of museums by creating their own drawings. New relationships and the way of seeing will be revealed as families engage with the artwork on view. Through hands-on experience, families will connect the work on display with the world outside.

4. Introduction to Birdwatching 

Take a tour of the natural areas of the park while looking for and learning about the hundreds of species of birds that live here.

5. Open House at Apple Seeds 

Apple seeds, the all-in-one children’s play space in Chelsea, is opening a second location on the Upper West Side at 200 West End Avenue sometime this spring.

Families interested in seeing what apple seeds has to offer its members can visit the original location for an after-hours birthday party to celebrate five years in Chelsea. The indoor playground will be open for free play and sample classes will be offered in cooking, science, dance, art, movement and music. Visitors will also get refreshments, giveaways and special promotions, and learn all about apple seeds’ Chelsea and upcoming Upper West Side locations.
